2020 Urban Planning Conference

Environmental, Social, and Spatial Justice Planning

Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University
February 21, 2020

The Department of Community & Regional Planning (DCRP) at Alabama A&M University (AAMU) will host the second annual Urban Planning Conference on Friday, February 21, in the Agricultural Research Center (ARC). Sessions will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

This year’s conference theme is “Environmental, Social, & Spatial Justice Planning,” and will focus on the fundamental elements required for communities to thrive in complex urban environments.

As we look into the future, global challenges to justice present opportunities for innovative, informed, and reflective planning practices. How cities respond to the climate crisis, the rise of nationalism and closing of borders, unaddressed legacies of racialized oppression, and economic entrenchment, will be a focal point for the field of planning.

This year's conference will focus on research, practice, and experiential planning practices that address the challenges of environmental justice, social justice, and spacial justice.

Four types of registration are available. All include full access to the conference sessions, lunch, and coffee breaks.

1. Standard Registration - Cost is $50.00. This registration is for all attendees who are not currently students at AAMU or any other institution.

2. Student Registration - Cost is $25.00. This registration is for attendees who are students at other universities or educational institutions.

3. AAMU Student, Faculty, and Staff Registration - Free. This registration is AAMU students, faculty and staff. Be sure to include your A-number. Click here to register.
